Bran Castle:
Located in close vicinity to the Bran Pass, the fortress of Bran was build by people from Brashov, under King Ludovic I of Anjou's "Royal Privilege" from 19 November 1377. The fortress was build to overlook and guard the Bran Pass and was part of the defensive system of Transylvania's southern borderlands. In 1498 the fortress and its domain passed into the possession of the Brashov City Coucil, and in 1651 the Council of Transylvania granted the people of Brashov "forever and irrevocable" ownership rights over the fortress and its inherent domain. On 1 December 1920 the people of Brashov offered the castle of Bran to Queen Mary of Romania. The edifice was then restored and arranged by the Royal Court's chief architect Karel Liman and the castle became a summer residence for the royal family.
In 1956, the castle became a museum of national history which opened to the public on 28 April 1957.
